Communities are facing unprecedented challenges due to the acceleration of climate-related disaster events and changing risk profiles. In particular, small, rural and remote communities, along with Indigenous communities and organizations, struggle to balance the range of pressing needs with limited capacity.
Led by HeronBridge Consulting in partnership with an amazing team of collaborators, the CoNext Climate Preparedness Hub aims to better equip local leaders with understanding, resources and connections, building confidence in addressing these complex challenges. Our introductory program, beginning in the fall of 2024, is offering practical training, personalized support and access to a network of leaders from 17 communities, supporting participants to better understand the implications of climate change and advance initiatives to build a safer, healthier future for their communities and regions. This program is funded by Natural Resources Canada through its national Climate Change Adaptation Program.

High quality flood mapping helps communities, individuals, governments and others to better understand their risks and plan for them. HeronBridge is collaborating in the design and facilitation of this dynamic engagement session with practitioners, policy makers and decision makers, to review and recommend best practices for flood mapping and its applications in the Western Canada region.
Risk assessments are a critical tool for communities to better understand and prioritize the range of hazards being faced now and into the future. But the impact of this work is greatly amplified when it is made available and accessible to others beyond local government, to aid others in building awareness and taking actions in support of readiness and resilience.
Emergency Management Cowichan engaged Ebbwater and HeronBridge to turn its recently completed Hazard Risk and Vulnerability Assessment into a public-facing, interactive tool for the public and community groups to learn from and carry forward. Featuring place-based hazard and risk information, resources to take action and case studies of resilience-building in the region, this tool brings the risk assessment to life on the ground, across the Cowichan region.
The Biodiversity and Ecosystem Health Framework is an initiative of the government of BC that aims to put biodiversity and ecosystem health at the centre of land and water stewardship in BC. Following on an extensive engagement process to develop a draft framework, WLRS was looking for an innovative approach that would help to build relationships and lay a path to implementation of the high-level intentions of the framework. HeronBridge brought a systems thinking approach to development and facilitation of a series of engaging sessions, tailoring the tools and design of each session to different audiences in order to clarify next steps.
